For example, if total factor productivity is increasing at the rate of 2 per cent per annum, then even with capital stock and labour force being held constant, gross domestic product (GDP) will increase at the rate of 2 per cent per annum. Studies concerning total factor productivity (TFP) have investigated the effect of TFP on economic growth from a country-level perspective, which is a critical issue in the macroeconomics field. Aggregate productivity growth has three components. A large body of work has explored the sources and breadth of the US acceleration and suggested the role of information and communications technology (ICT) production. To decompose total factor productivity growth into technical progress, technical efficiency change, allocative efficiency change, and scale efficiency change, a stochastic frontier approach was applied to Malaysian manufacturing data covering the period 2000 to 2004. When multiple inputs are considered, the measure is called multi-factor productivity or MFP. Multi-factor productivity is typically estimated using growth accounting. If the inputs specifically are labor and capital, and the outputs are value added intermediate outputs, the measure is called total factor productivity or TFP. The chart shows the quarterly cumulative growth of multi-factor productivity (MFP) in all industries constituting non-financial services, their aggregate (the solid line) and total MFP growth (the dotted line). Non-financial services faced negative growth after the downturn. In non-financial services, MFP growth started to recover in 2014. Stagnating or even negative growth of labour productivity can be seen as a drag on output growth, assuming that the quantity of input of labour and capital stays  A Brief on the Estimation of Total Factor Productivity Growth.

This paper employs directional distance function (DDF) and the global Malmquist–Luenberger (GML) productivity index to measure the green total factor productivity (GTFP) growth of China’s 36 industrial sectors from 2000 to 2014. The growth in productivity, which is also known as total factor productivity growth (TFPG), is the difference between the actual growth of output and the growth due to a composite of all factor inputs. Productivity is not everything, but in the long run it is almost everything (Krugman, 1990). Thus, in the course of time the only The latter is called total factor productivity (TFP) growth. Total or multi-factor productivity extends the concept of single factor productivity, such as output per unit labor or capital, to more than one factor.
