The authors investigated boundary 2015-03-03 2018-01-05 Theory, constructs, and research with regard to individual work–family boundary management dynamics are reviewed with the goal of promoting a greater understanding and integration of the existing literature. The article begins by noting trends that have contributed to interest in the topic, and then outlines major theoretical perspectives on boundary management and boundary characteristics Boundary theory proposes that individuals manage the boundaries between work and personal life through processes of segmenting and/or integrating the domains. The authors investigated boundary management profiles of 332 workers in an investigation of the segmentation-integration continuum. One way in which this can be done is to engage in arguments, described as "boundary work," which demarcates the difference between "proper," legitimate scientific activities and other, less legitimate ones.However, the places at which such boundaries are drawn will constantly change to fit with the needs of the argument being made and the demands of society at the time.
